The mechanism of transferring and routing information in quantum and classical network are basically different. The basic idea and working principle of quantum networks is based on a unique feature of quantum mechanics known as entanglement. Since entanglement generation rate is a key factor for quantum networks it can be considered as a route metric.

Software defined networks (SDN) has gained a lot of attention from both academia and industry recently. SDN is a new networking paradigm that decouples the control plane from the data plane. In this paradigm, control functions are centralized in an SDN controller. The migration from traditional networks to SDN is highly challenging for network operators.
